Dates for the 2018-19 season: Following last nights League Management Committee meeting the following dates are proposed for next season, with the season starting 22nd September until 8th December, then the second half of the season running 12th January to 23rd March, with the 16th February acting as a slip date. We have also received a request from clubs with teams in small team divisions to have their season start on the first day of the season so that less games are exposed to bad weather in December. Traditionally we have started them later to allow clubs memberships to settle following summer sports/harvest/etc). If you have any views on either the proposed season dates or the proposal to bring the date for small team divisions forward please do let League Secretary or your respective League Managers know.
Transfer deadline looming: The transfer deadline for all players for the 2017-18 is looming. If you are thinking of moving clubs your transfer must be started on the East League transfer system by 31st January.
Umpire Jamie Keep passes away: Jamie Keep died on Wednesday 17th January at his home in Spain where he had moved with his wife a few years ago.
He was one of the East’s very successful and most popular umpires in the late 70’s, getting very close to an international call up. He will be missed by many umpires who worked with him over many years, as well as those whom he selected and coached in later years. There will also be many players both nationally and in the East, who will remember him as one of the fairest and most respected umpires they experienced. Funeral details will be posted when they are known.
Janet Goody – Funeral details: We were all saddened to hear the news of the passing of Janet Goody (a very long term League Manager for the EWL Women’s Premier Division). Janets funeral will be held on Wednesday 24th January 11am at Colchester Crematorium. Refreshments at Colchester United Community Stadium. She will be sadly missed.
